My Birthday Outfit!

This is what I wore out to dinner for my birthday last week! I’m wearing paisley again, which might be a bit samey but at least I know what I like! I bought this blazer probably a year and a half ago from the vintage section in Urban Outfitters. I don’t wear it that often cause it’s not really a daytime jacket (although perhaps it should be!) When I was in Birmingham last month I found this skirt in Cow which almost matches my jacket, so I had to buy it. It’s a gold overload, and I love how over the top they look together! I’ve actually been wearing this skirt a lot  with black t-shirts day-to-day and I really love the length.

These necklaces were a birthday present from a couple of my friends. They’re so pretty and dainty, and I love the designs! It was a lot of fun wearing red on my lips and eyeliner on my upper lids – I feel like I haven’t done my makeup like that in forever! Also, do you like the pom poms I glued to my shoes? They’re not really involved enough to be a “DIY” so I’m not posting about them separately, but I think it makes my shoes a lot more fun!

Birthday Wishlist

I have never done a wish list on this blog, but since my birthday’s coming up and I seem to have spent a lot of time window shopping online recently, I thought it was about time! Do you ever think about what you would do if you won a million pounds? I do, and I think I would spend a lot of money on a shopping spree. Although, I’m trying to buy less and wear more, so I would probably buy a few expensive but very funky items of clothing.

These ASOS Platforms are amazing! The pom poms are so cute, and I love the idea of embroidered shoes. I actually tried to DIY these last week, but it was not successful… I’m so glad I discovered Discount Universe. I mean, I can’t afford to buy anything from them but the crazy, colourful, over the top clothes remind me of how much fun getting dressed can be. If I had this rainbow two piece, you can bet I would wear it all summer! My love for bell bottoms is still going strong! These Miracle Eye Bells are definitely party trousers and choosing my favourite pair of Novella Royale Bells is seriously hard. How about a pair for every day of the week?

Since blogging, I’ve become more interested in makeup (although I still don’t wear very much) and I’ve been drawn to darker shades recently (although they’re not very summery!) I wouldn’t mind everything from the Lime Crime Clueless Witch collection and this halloweeny Serpentina shade. Every time I go into Lush I try on this Fantasy Gold liquid makeup – I would definitely wear it as lipstick! My hair is very problematic, and I swore by the Aussie hair care range until they were no longer cruelty free. The best cruelty free hair care I’ve tried so far is the Lush Fairtrade Honey shampooand American Cream conditioner, but they’re expensive! I loved watching the second series of the Great British Sewing Bee, and I would love to make some clothes from the Great British Sewing Bee book! I’m really into sewing at the moment, so I’d also love the DIY Couture book – I want to know hot to sew without a pattern! I follow the Everyday Sexism project on twitter and the Everyday Sexism book should be a really interesting (if slightly depressing) read.

Photography with Joe

Photography with Joe / JesstheticsPhotography with Joe / JesstheticsI just couldn’t resist sharing some more photos from my time in Southampton with Joe. I know that I’m a bad blogger for repeating content but I have photographic evidence that I can do a cart-wheel and climb a tree in high heels, and the world needs to see it! (See the original posts here and here.) In the above photos I’m wearing a vintage feather jacket that I found in Paris, as well as my Ette bell bottoms. I actually really like this outfit, and I think I’ll wear it again, probably outside of Joe’s sitting room next time!

It’s so much fun to be photographed by someone who’s as excited to be there as you are! I’m so grateful that James and my family take outfit photos for me, but I know it’s not always their favourite thing to do, especially in the cold! Taking photos with Joe has increased my desire for a DSLR, and my desire for a personal photographer! Just for fun, I’ll leave you with a photo that Joe took of me 5 years ago. Do you think I’ve changed? Don’t forget to check out more of his work here.

Paisley in Southampton

I spent the last weekend with my good friend Joe in Southampton. He used to live on the same street as me (we’ve been friends since we were 13!) and we would help each other out with our art and photography A levels. I would model for him, and he would have picnics outside with me at at midnight, or help me collect rubbish from the bottom of the river to make into a shed. I had a blast staying with him in his gorgeous flat, and we spent Saturday taking pictures like old times, in the woodland in Southampton common! I’m wearing a playsuit from ASOS and my trust New Look heeled boots. I LOVE this playsuit. it’s quite a striking colour, and it’s very comfy but the cut outs make it a little summery. I can’t wait to take this to Italy with me this week!

I’ve tried to go for a “stepped out of a time machine from the 70s” look with my round rose-tinted glasses. They’re very similar to a fancy dress pair of sunglasses I have, but I can assure you these ones are supposed to be worn every day! I don’t usually wear heels to go walking around a forest (although my last outfit would have you thinking otherwise) but these shoes are so comfy maybe I will from now on! Taking these photos with Joe was so much fun, and there are more coming your way! It’s a shame he lives so far away, otherwise we could do this every weekend 🙂 You can see some more of Joe’s work here. Have a lovely week!

Scarborough

Jessthetics / ScarboroughJessthetics / ScarboroughJessthetics / ScarboroughJessthetics / ScarboroughOn our last full day in York, James and I decided to take a road trip to Scarborough! I’ve never been before and I wasn’t expecting much – a friend described it as a “grim place” – but I had a really great time. It’s quite large for a seaside town and whilst the town center is a little crumbly, there’s lots to do and see along the shore! We had pizza for lunch and walked all around the town, the pier and the castle. We browsed the charity shops and the strange little stalls in the market vaults and ate lots of candyfloss! Similarly to Filey, Scarborough has a trapped-in-another-decade feel that I find beautiful, charming and sometimes a little eerie, in the best possible way!

To wander around Scarborough I wore an ASOS crop top with a floral skirt that I found in the attic – I think it used to belong to my mum! I’ve found this crop top quite hard to wear. It’s quite high, and I have to wear it with a bra so that it keeps its shape, which is not something I wear very often! I was pleased then to find that these two items go together quite nicely 🙂

We had a gorgeous day, and I would definitely return again to visit more of the North Bay and this veggie cafe that was closed when we were there! Sorry for all the photos today, I had a lot to share. Today I embark on the beginning of my holiday in Scotland! I hope you’re having a good Monday 🙂

What I Wore: Silver Robot from Outer Space

Jessthetics / Silver SkirtJessthetics / Silver SkirtJessthetics / Silver SkirtJessthetics / Silver Skirt

What says “I’m ready to party” more than wearing silver from head-to-toe? Nothing, that’s what. I can’t decide whether the silver makes me look more like a robot or an alien, or maybe a bit of both! I bought this silver skirt from Missguided recently and I’ve been wearing this outfit for evenings out constantly (completed by my white fur coat for warmth!) My top is from a charity shop and I’m wearing my silver ASOS platforms again – proof that they go with everything! My style usually isn’t trend driven, but I really like the silver / holographic trend and I wish I’d jumped on the bandwagon a little sooner!

I can picture myself wearing this skirt with crop tops when spring comes around. It’s been so much warmer and lighter recently so I think spring is almost here, which makes me very happy! These photos were taken in my house in York. I moved out yesterday, and back home to Leicestershire, so it’s nice to have lots of photos of me in the house! Happy Thursday friends 🙂

What I Wore: Teddy Gilet

Teddy Gilet / JesstheticsTeddy Gilet / JesstheticsTeddy Gilet / JesstheticsTeddy Gilet / Jessthetics

Since starting my new job I don’t wear anything interesting Monday to Friday. I’ve given up wearing make-up to work, I have to be able to cycle in what I’m wearing (I’m not one of those crazy people who can cycle in heels!) I want to look smart-ish and if I’m honest, I don’t want to stand out in the office too much! This means that the weekend is my chance to experiment with my clothes. I bought this gilet from ASOS in the January sales and it is so boho and warm – two of my favourite properties in an item of clothing! My mum thinks it looks like a carpet but I think I look like a rock star. It’s perfect for lazy Sunday afternoons when I want to feel good and be comfy, and this is an outfit I’ve been wearing on repeat for months. I picked up this dress in the Salvation Army in Durham (one of my favourite charity shops!) and my shoes are a trusty ebay vintage find that I’ve been wearing for years.

I love this crystal necklace, it’s such a pretty colour and it’s so dainty! I’m working on increasing my pendant collection, I might even start layering them soon! You can win a version of this necklace, along with lots of other goodies, in my giveaway!

What I Wore: Blue Velvet

I can’t believe I’m only blogging about this dress now. This is the exact outfit that I wore for New Years Eve but the photos were too fuzzy to post (note to self, always take outfit photos before drinking champagne.) I love this vintage dress so much. It’s short enough to be not-too-formal but long enough to be classy – being tall, most mini dresses are super short on me! You can’t go wrong with blue velvet and I’m in love with the sweetheart neckline. These ASOS shoes are magical. They have a seventies vibe which I adore, and because they’re mid-sized platforms they’re so comfy. I actually walked into town and back (30 minutes each way) on New Years in these shoes and didn’t have any problems. I told you they were magical!

I did my gold nails using Models Own polish, and my necklaces are from Waiste. I seem to be starting a collection! I wore this outfit to go out with my friends in York which was so much fun. Bloggers don’t often post going-out outfits. Maybe it’s because it’s so hard to take pictures at night-time. Oh well, I think this attempt went better than my last one!

I haven’t been able to catch up on other blogs recently. Don’t worry, I still love you all, I’m just still getting used to my new work / life balance. I hope you’re having a fantastic Thursday!

What I Wore: Zara Jumper

Okay, so this is not the most inventive outfit in the world, but it is comfy and cosy which is what I’ve been going for lately. Before New Years I spent a weekend with my Grandparents in Surrey and this is what I wore for Sunday dinner and sales shopping. I got lots of lovely things for christmas, but one of my favourites was this Zara jumper that my mum bought me. I wear a lot of high-waisted things, and I think they look good with a cropped jumper like this! It also has a roll neck and it’s super soft.

My necklace was also a Christmas present. It’s from Waiste. I just love their jewellery and they sell the nicest vintage clothes – not surprising since the business is run by vintage boho blogger babe Sarah. I’m wearing Christmas nail polish too! The red is from Zoya and the glitter on top is Models Own. I’ve decided to only buy cosmetics that aren’t tested on animals (a blog post on that coming soon!) and nail polish is one of the easier things to find – I love Zoya and Models Own and they’re both bunny friendly!

What I Wore: Blue Fur Forever

I’ve been dressing very lazily recently. It’s too cold to spend a long time getting ready in the morning, so I’ve just been wearing whatever top and trouser combination comes to hand. I’ve also been finding tights very irritating, which means that I haven’t worn a dress for ages. This is the perfect lazy morning outfit because it’s easy and warm but the fur coat makes me feel like I put some effort in.

I picked up my coat from the Guildford Car Boot sale. Car Boots tend to stop for the winter, but I’m excited for when they start-up again so I can go treasure hunting! I also think these earrings do a great job of jazzing up  my outfit – my friends bought them for me for my birthday last year and they’re glittery! I love glitter, especially at this time of year. I’ve blogged about these ASOS jeans before, and I’m still wearing them all the time. I wear them to my volunteering job every week!

You guys, it’s almost December! I love the run up to Christmas and I’ve already been drinking a lot of hot chocolate in preparation. I’m driving to Oxford tomorrow for my brother’s birthday, and I’m hoping to start my christmas shopping, even if some of it is for me… do you have any plans for the weekend? Has the cold been influencing your outfit choices? Happy Thursday 🙂
