What I Wore: Blue Velvet

I can’t believe I’m only blogging about this dress now. This is the exact outfit that I wore for New Years Eve but the photos were too fuzzy to post (note to self, always take outfit photos before drinking champagne.) I love this vintage dress so much. It’s short enough to be not-too-formal but long enough to be classy – being tall, most mini dresses are super short on me! You can’t go wrong with blue velvet and I’m in love with the sweetheart neckline. These ASOS shoes are magical. They have a seventies vibe which I adore, and because they’re mid-sized platforms they’re so comfy. I actually walked into town and back (30 minutes each way) on New Years in these shoes and didn’t have any problems. I told you they were magical!

I did my gold nails using Models Own polish, and my necklaces are from Waiste. I seem to be starting a collection! I wore this outfit to go out with my friends in York which was so much fun. Bloggers don’t often post going-out outfits. Maybe it’s because it’s so hard to take pictures at night-time. Oh well, I think this attempt went better than my last one!

I haven’t been able to catch up on other blogs recently. Don’t worry, I still love you all, I’m just still getting used to my new work / life balance. I hope you’re having a fantastic Thursday!

  1. You look gorgeous! Dare I ask you how tall you are? I always find you look quite tall in your outfit posts and especially this one ^_^ (I have an obsession with height, I love trying to figure out people’s height, hehe)

    • Thank you! I’m 5″8 haha, I’ve actually been making an effort to use photos where I look tall because I tend to photograph shorter than I am xx

      • Hehe! I’m sure I’d do the same if I wrote outfit posts ^_^ but 5″8 is indeed quite tall! imagine how hard it is when you’re 5″3, haha! Your pics are very nice, even indoors, and getting even better I think πŸ˜€

  2. What a fun outfit, I love your hamsa necklace. Oh, and if you were living closer, I would definitely invite you for some tea and chocolate covered oranges!

  3. You look wonderful! I bought those heels in black on a whim and I’m so glad I did. SO COMFY (except when my ankles give way but that part is more me than the shoes..)

  4. Jess, no way, I am 5 foot 8 too! We can hang out and be curly-haired twins (although I’m about twice the size of you, look at your figure in this dress..!!!!). I totally love velvet (vegan velvet, obvs) I think it’s my favourite fabric to wear. I have two dark blue velvet dresses, I must feature one at some point. You look SO totally smokin’ in these pictures and not in a dirty cigarette way but in a top classy lady way. How amazing are those necklaces as well? Very Stevie Nicks! XXX

  5. I LOVE this outfit!!! Sweetheart necklines = swoonsville. I’m also very tall so I hear you on dress length – it can be tricky, but this velvet number looks too perfect. And those shoes!! Just, love. I also hear you on being behind on blogs – I usually don’t keep up during the weeks these days because of work, and just go through all at once on the weekends. Still finding my routing in the new year and with a still new-ish job, I guess. Have a beautiful week! XO

  6. Thanks so much for your sweet words, they made my day!
What an adorable outfit, I love the dress on you and the shoes are also very cool!

    Have a great week,

Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment! I love reading your thoughts :)
