That 70s Feeling

You know, a year ago I would have told you that I didn’t have a signature style. I’m inspired by so many different aesthetics, and I’ve always subscribed to the school of “wear whatever you want, just because you feel like it.” I’ve recently made an effort to buy things that fit in with the rest of the clothes in my wardrobe, and if anything I’ve gone too far in the other direction. I just want to dress like I’m from the 70s all the time! Jumpsuits + round sunglasses = a perfect outfit in my books. It might be a little predictable, but at least I know what I like. This might just be the perfect jumpsuit. It’s super 70s, and it’s so soft and flowy. The nipped-in waist makes it dressy, and you could just as easily wear it to a classy event as a day of napping in the garden.

I bought my vintage jacket from eBay years ago and took it in at the sides. A while ago I decided not to buy any leather, even second-hand but to keep the leather items I already owned. I just love the leather detailing on the back of this jacket, I think the horse riding through the desert is such a summery scene! These photos were taken this weekend in London, where I spent a glorious few days with my friends. I drank whisky, ate too much junk food, talked into the night and hung out in the park in the beautiful sunshine. I wish all weekends were like that!

*This jumpsuit was given to me by Warehouse, but all opionions are my own!

Plaid in Newcastle

I picked up this coat in Birmingham for the bargain price of £2 – yes, you heard me right! My friend Leah introduced me to this amazing chaotic, cheap vintage shop called Credit Crunch Vintage. You have to dig to find the good stuff, but it’s worth it! I’ve been wearing this coat all week. It’s lightweight and perfect for the British summer! The rest of the outfit just seemed to make sense – dungarees always make sense! I’m not sure how clear it is in the photos, but I got this lovely Lime Crime lipstick for my birthday. It smells like vanilla, and it’s the perfect purple!

I finally got myself a new pair of sensible shoes. I picked up the last pair of size sevens in the New Look sale – they’re vegan, and they don’t have a heel which is exactly what I was looking for! Chelsea boots aren’t the most glamorous shoes in the world, but they’re comfy and they go with everything. These photos were taken after James and I enjoyed a picnic in the park during a charity shop trip to Newcastle. I’ve been doing  lot of charity shop shopping recently to stock my etsy shop, and I’m not complaining!

Paisley in Southampton

I spent the last weekend with my good friend Joe in Southampton. He used to live on the same street as me (we’ve been friends since we were 13!) and we would help each other out with our art and photography A levels. I would model for him, and he would have picnics outside with me at at midnight, or help me collect rubbish from the bottom of the river to make into a shed. I had a blast staying with him in his gorgeous flat, and we spent Saturday taking pictures like old times, in the woodland in Southampton common! I’m wearing a playsuit from ASOS and my trust New Look heeled boots. I LOVE this playsuit. it’s quite a striking colour, and it’s very comfy but the cut outs make it a little summery. I can’t wait to take this to Italy with me this week!

I’ve tried to go for a “stepped out of a time machine from the 70s” look with my round rose-tinted glasses. They’re very similar to a fancy dress pair of sunglasses I have, but I can assure you these ones are supposed to be worn every day! I don’t usually wear heels to go walking around a forest (although my last outfit would have you thinking otherwise) but these shoes are so comfy maybe I will from now on! Taking these photos with Joe was so much fun, and there are more coming your way! It’s a shame he lives so far away, otherwise we could do this every weekend 🙂 You can see some more of Joe’s work here. Have a lovely week!

In the Meadow

I’ve been feeling quite (okay, very) inspired by the 70s recently. Haim are my hair inspiration now and forever. I’ve been coveting just about everything from the Honeywood VIntage etsy shop, but until then I’ll just have to make do with things that I find in the attic, like this dress / nightgown that I found a couple of weeks ago. Taking pictures in this particular field is very nostalgic for me because it’s where me and my friend Joe used to go to take pictures when he was doing his photography A level. It makes me sad to know that within the next couple of years this field will be turned into a housing estate. Where will I go to take pictures in flowy dresses?

Whilst I was taking these photos, a horse ran past followed 30 seconds later by its rider. Don’t worry, everyone involved was fine but it was definitely more exciting than your average outfit photo taking trip!

I’m not sure how much longer I’ll be walking around bare armed and bare-legged, it’s getting chilly! I hope you’re having the best Thursday.

Update: I’ve just found out that my mum bought this dress from a market in Johannesburg in the 70s – what a lovely history it has 🙂
