Blogger Favourites: Waiste

I am over the moon that Sara from Waiste agreed to be interviewed for this month’s Blogger Favourites post! She writes the fashion blog Waiste and also runs her own business by the same name. Waiste sells the most gorgeous boho vintage clothes, jewellery and homeware. I received a couple of necklaces from them for christmas (which I blogged about here and here!) and I love them. I’ve lusted over Sara’s dreamy wardrobe for a while now, and the way she puts outfits together is genius, so it was a lot of fun to quiz her about her blog, her style and her business! Here’s what she had to say 🙂

J: I think it’s always interesting to learn about other people’s beginnings. What prompted you to begin your blog? When did you start exploring your own personal style?

S: I’ve always wanted to look a little bit different from everyone else, and I’ve always loved fashion ever since I could dress up in my Nana’s clothes, There was no one reason which made me want to start a blog in the beginning, but I feel like in recent years when blogging, I have found my own style properly, I love to create pretty imagery, and know what works well for me, rather just dressing like a crazy person, which was what my teenage years were spent doing. I love vintage and finding hidden gems, which then led on to starting my own brand too.

J: Your style is to die for! Where do you get your inspiration from? Do you have any favourite brands or bloggers?

S: Tumblr and Pinterest are great online inspiration boards for me, I can spend hours on them, and I love a lot of American and Australian brands/online stores such as Planet blue, Spell, Novella Royale etc. The Free People blog I read religiously too.

J: What is your favorite thing to come out of your blog? Do you have a favourite campaign or outfit post?

S: There’s so many, I’m just so grateful to have the opportunities that my blog has given me. My favourite thing will be revealed VERY soon (I haven’t done it yet but let’s just say it’s one of my dreams come true and I’m working with one of my favourite brands Free people)

J: I love your brand. Waiste is the answer to all my vintage boho dreams, and your jewellery is gorgeous! It’s so much fun watching your brand grow and develop. Do you have any advice to give to young people like yourself who want to set up their own small business or fashion brand? Is there anything you wish you’d known?

S: Don’t give up, but don’t expect success to happen overnight. It’s taken years of building my brand to start feeling like it’s become a proper business, and make sure you get a lot of experience within the fashion industry first, I’ve got 4 and half years of working at ASOS behind me so I know exactly how an e-commerce business is run. Experience is invaluable, but you’ll learn as you go along too of course what’s right for your business.

J: You’re so busy! How do you manage your time between blogging, modelling and running a business?

S: I don’t sleep or have weekends. Haha. Seriously though. I even work Sundays.

Thanks for sharing with us Sara, it was so much fun chatting with you! Don’t forget to visit her blog and her shop 🙂

People Tree

We had some lovely weather last week so James and I took the opportunity to go for a walk and a picnic lunch in Bradgate Park. I’m wearing my new trousers from People Tree! I just love the pattern and the high waist – they’re so summery! They were too small for my calves, and I knew that the size up wouldn’t fit my waist, so I sewed splits into the back of each trouser leg, and now they’re the perfect fit. All of People Tree’s clothes are sustainable and fair trade, so I always feel good about buying from them. I found these sunglasses in a vintage shop in Southampton and they’re so funky. This summer I don’t think I’ll be leaving the house without a pair of colourful round sunglasses. They remind me of the 90s and the 70s at the same time, and what could be better!?

This clutch bag is also from People Tree! It’s made from a recycled sari which is pretty cool, and I love the pattern on mine. The clutch is bigger than I expected it to be – my huge phone fits inside, and I wasn’t sure that it would! I look forward to being invited to lots of summery parties so that I can take my bag. My shoes are new too. I really need to buy a sensible pair of shoes. These purple ones aren’t very high so they almost count. I love the colour, they’re the perfect height and the postage was free!

I hope your week is off to a beautiful start 🙂

What I Wore: Silver Robot from Outer Space

What says “I’m ready to party” more than wearing silver from head-to-toe? Nothing, that’s what. I can’t decide whether the silver makes me look more like a robot or an alien, or maybe a bit of both! I bought this silver skirt from Missguided recently and I’ve been wearing this outfit for evenings out constantly (completed by my white fur coat for warmth!) My top is from a charity shop and I’m wearing my silver ASOS platforms again – proof that they go with everything! My style usually isn’t trend driven, but I really like the silver / holographic trend and I wish I’d jumped on the bandwagon a little sooner!

I can picture myself wearing this skirt with crop tops when spring comes around. It’s been so much warmer and lighter recently so I think spring is almost here, which makes me very happy! These photos were taken in my house in York. I moved out yesterday, and back home to Leicestershire, so it’s nice to have lots of photos of me in the house! Happy Thursday friends 🙂

What I Wore: Blue Velvet

I can’t believe I’m only blogging about this dress now. This is the exact outfit that I wore for New Years Eve but the photos were too fuzzy to post (note to self, always take outfit photos before drinking champagne.) I love this vintage dress so much. It’s short enough to be not-too-formal but long enough to be classy – being tall, most mini dresses are super short on me! You can’t go wrong with blue velvet and I’m in love with the sweetheart neckline. These ASOS shoes are magical. They have a seventies vibe which I adore, and because they’re mid-sized platforms they’re so comfy. I actually walked into town and back (30 minutes each way) on New Years in these shoes and didn’t have any problems. I told you they were magical!

I did my gold nails using Models Own polish, and my necklaces are from Waiste. I seem to be starting a collection! I wore this outfit to go out with my friends in York which was so much fun. Bloggers don’t often post going-out outfits. Maybe it’s because it’s so hard to take pictures at night-time. Oh well, I think this attempt went better than my last one!

I haven’t been able to catch up on other blogs recently. Don’t worry, I still love you all, I’m just still getting used to my new work / life balance. I hope you’re having a fantastic Thursday!

What I Wore: Zara Jumper

Okay, so this is not the most inventive outfit in the world, but it is comfy and cosy which is what I’ve been going for lately. Before New Years I spent a weekend with my Grandparents in Surrey and this is what I wore for Sunday dinner and sales shopping. I got lots of lovely things for christmas, but one of my favourites was this Zara jumper that my mum bought me. I wear a lot of high-waisted things, and I think they look good with a cropped jumper like this! It also has a roll neck and it’s super soft.

My necklace was also a Christmas present. It’s from Waiste. I just love their jewellery and they sell the nicest vintage clothes – not surprising since the business is run by vintage boho blogger babe Sarah. I’m wearing Christmas nail polish too! The red is from Zoya and the glitter on top is Models Own. I’ve decided to only buy cosmetics that aren’t tested on animals (a blog post on that coming soon!) and nail polish is one of the easier things to find – I love Zoya and Models Own and they’re both bunny friendly!

What I Wore: Pastels and Purple

I have had this dress for a while. I love the long slit down the side and I think the pastel patterns is kind of unusual, but it feels too dressy for every day, so I’ve been wearing it with this t-shirt over the top! I’m also still wearing my new Kate Moss Rimmel purple lipstick, although food and this lipstick do not go well together. I have a feeling my purple / dark red lipstick collection might grow over the next few months – I love wearing a super dark lipstick with an otherwise quite girly outfit.

I bought it at The Vagabond Bazaar in York last summer – unfortunately I’m struggling to find out the name of the company that I bought it from. I love the length, and I’d love to get some more necklaces so that I can start layering them – I’ve been eyeing up some of the pendants on the WAISTE website!

I couldn’t help but include this photos of Archie. It’s a special day when he stays still for long enough to have his photo taken. Hanging out with this bunny is one of the best parts of my day ❤

I hope your week is off to a good start!
